Moving from Linear to Circular Economy in Saudi Arabia: Life-Cycle Assessment on Plastic Waste Management

The discovery of plastic caused a true transformation in human lives and it is used many essential applications. Despite its significance, humanity struggles to control waste stop infiltration into the natural environment. This study aims review existing management system Saudi Arabia evaluate environmental impacts different scenarios by conducting life-cycle assessment (LCA). covered five scenarios: landfill, incineration with energy recovery, mechanical recycling residuals, pyrolysis combined residuals. For all this study, CML-IA Baseline method was used, utilizing OpenLCA software. Sources data for were obtained from Ecoinvent 3.9.1 database published peer-reviewed reports. LCA revealed that residuals scenario has lowest impact. Additionally, can accept broader range waste, which improves overall towards shifting circular economy. Therefore, meet various requirements, recommended establish portfolio techniques produce high-quality recycled products. It also utilize renewable electricity generation Arabia, since shown significant positive impact across categories.
